Have you ever truly slowed down and listened to a river?

Earlier this summer, we launched the Danube River Walk Guide - a free, practical resource developed in collaboration with river advocate Li An Phoa, founder of Drinkable Rivers.
The guide is a walking resource for anyone who wants to form a fresh perspective or deepen their experience of the Danube, or any other river or waterbody. Whether you start solo or are keen to bring people together, this guide will help you, step by step and conversation by conversation. It's aimed at everyone - from individuals to community groups, NGOs, teachers - anyone who cares about the health of our waters.
Walk the River. Feel the Difference.
Born out of a 250-kilometre walk along the Danube in Romania in 2024 - which brought researchers, local communities, children, and river stewards together along the way - the guide captures the simple but powerful truth that walking changes how we see things. Along the riverbank, conversations and encounters of all kinds happen naturally. Questions surface. Connections form. And perhaps a desire to protect, or even a shared sense of responsibility, can begin to grow.
The guide takes you through everything you need to plan your own river walk - from setting your objectives and building your team, to mapping your route, engaging local partners, and following up after the walk. It includes templates, audio guidance, video clips, and real-world tips drawn from experience on the ground.

You don't need specialist training or expensive gear. You just need the river, some companions, and a willingness to look and listen!
