DANUBE4all at 46th IAD Conference

DANUBE4all colleagues Martin Pusch, Albert Scrieciu and Gabriela Costea recently participated in the 46th International Association for Danube Research (IAD) Conference, held in Baja, Hungary, from 10 -14 August 2026. The IAD is the oldest NGO and an active network of scientists working across the Danube River Basin in Europe. It celebrates its 70th year in 2026.

The conference brought together researchers and experts from across the region to exchange knowledge on the socio-ecological future of the Danube, with a particular focus on integrating riverine and terrestrial systems to support a sustainable Danube. Discussions and contributions covered a wide range of ecological and management topics through 12 IAD Expert Groups, including Water Quality, Biotic Processes, Microbiology, Phytoplankton & Phytobenthos, Macrophytes, Floodplain Ecology, LTSER & Environmental History, Fish Biology & Fishery, Invasive Alien Species, Ecotoxicology, Delta/Fore-Delta, and Sustainable Development & Public Participation.
Our team actively contributed to these discussions, sharing their research, experiences and expertise and engaging with colleagues working on related topics across the Danube Region.
A highlight of the final day was a session showcasing European projects supporting nature restoration in the Danube River Basin–Black Sea Region, where DANUBE4all was among the projects presented. This provided an excellent opportunity to highlight the project's objectives and activities, and to demonstrate its contribution to advancing nature restoration across the region.

Participation in events such as the IAD Conference is particularly valuable for researchers and practitioners working on the Danube. It provides an opportunity to gain insight into current research, projects and emerging priorities across the basin, while also strengthening connections and fostering collaboration among experts from different countries and disciplines.
