On the 3rd of June, colleagues from project partners ZSI and Pulsaqua were in attendance at the CS4Water Conference in Delft to demonstrate the recently launched Citizen Science Toolbox.

Hosted online by Pulsaqua, the toolbox currently offers a beginner's information page, a tools-and-methods quiz, and an AI chatbot. Primarly aimed at grassroots environmental groups that might lack the resources or know-how to get started in their objectives, the toolbox is designed to put ecological restoration tools in the hands of everyday people.

At the CS4Water Conference, the DANUBE4all team took this community-first vision a step further by hosting a workshop inviting participants to share their real-world experiences with citizen science in aquatic ecosystems. The session was designed as a collaborative exchange, tapping into the collective knowledge of attendees to build a clearer picture of what holds citizen science back in the water sector.

Among other activities, participants took part in a 'Brainwalk' to explore the barriers participants experienced when implementing citizen science actions. They ranked the barriers identified by different stakeholder groups, which helped to prioritise challenges according to the most urgent solutions, paving the way for targeted follow-up actions.

Development of the CS Toolbox will continue and will be guided by feedback from the workshop. The full session report is available below.
