DANUBE4all at the Coastal Dynamics Conference, Aveiro, Portugal

Updated: May 8

DANUBE4all colleagues from ISMAR,CNR (The Institute of Marine Sciences of the National Research Council of Italy) and Geoecomar (The National Institute for Research and Development of Marine Geology and Geoecology in Romania) recently travelled to Aveiro, Portugal to attend the Coastal Dynamics Conference 2025.

The conference, which took place in April at the University of Aveiro, focused on a range of pertinent coastal topics including: shoreline evolution modelling, participatory research & citizen engagement for coastal sustainability, restoring river-coast dynamics: barriers and enablers for nature-based interventions, and navigating coastal microplastic: fate and transport.

Christian Ferrarin (ISMAR,CNR) (below) gave a presentation in the DANUBIUSRI dedicated session concerning Restoring River-Coast Dynamics on behalf of the DANUBE4all project. Christian's presentation "Modelling River-Lagoon-Sea Continuum and Reconnection Solutions in the Danube Delta" sought to provide for a better understanding of water and sediments circulation in the Danube Delta, as part of the ecological rehabilitation proposed plans.

The material presented at the Coastal Dynamics conference is part of a publication by Ferrarin, C., Bellafiore, D., Paladio Hernandez, A., Dinu, I., and Stanica, A.: Modelling river-sea continuum: the case of the Danube Delta, EGUsphere [preprint], which is currently under review in Ocean Science (OS) and is available as a preprint accessible here.
